I saw Summer's tutorial here on painted chain, and thought it would be a perfect gift for my sis. She's always one (ok, let's be honest, FOUR) steps ahead of me in fashion, and I thought she would love a long chain necklace with a bright pop of color.
Here's how I did it:
I started by purchasing white necklace chains in the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby. (Half off!)
For this project I found a small chain to be the best to work with. The smaller chain doesn't move as much, so the paint stays much nicer.
Starting with the larger chain, I used painter's tape to mark off sections. I just eyeballed one large section and two small sections.
For the smaller chain, I used a tape measure and marked off 3" sections with 2" spaces in between each section.
I primed both necklaces with Martha Stewart Metal Primer so the paint would adhere well.
When I had the necklaces laid out on paper, it was a pain to get the paint all the way around the chain and they kept sticking to the paper as they dried. So I wrapped the necklaces around some hangers and hung them up where it would be easier to paint and would dry much better. (It was one of those light bulb moments!)
I painted the primed sections with two coats of Cayman Blue.
Since I used acrylic paint, I sprayed them well with a clear gloss sealer to prevent the paint from chipping off or coming off on clothes. And here they are against my painted brick fireplace:
I believe everything, no matter how big or how small, should always be thoughtfully wrapped. Even the simplest thing can be made so special by thinking about how it's presented. And it doesn't have to cost a bunch of money! I re-used a white jewelry box and lined the box with re-used pink tissue paper.
I cut a small strip from the tissue paper to wrap around the box and tied it with spare pink ribbon I had.
