I was able to pick up a few at CVS.
Let's start off with the packaging. These cream shadows are housed in little glass jars with a nice bit of heft, which I think adds a little "high end" substantiality to a drug store product. The jars are, however, a little bit deceptive. The "neck" of the jar is the only part that has shadow in it, so the rest of the heft (a 1/2 inch layer of glass at the bottom) is just that - heft.
You do get a decent amount of product, albeit a little less than a MAC Paint Pot. These are 4g apiece, compared to the 5g of a MAC. They also cost significantly less, at around 7 dollars a pop compared to 17.50.
On to the shadows! From left to right, the shades in the jars are Edgy Emerald, Bold Gold and Tough as Taupe.
The swatches are, from left to right: Tough as Taupe, Edgy Emerald, and Bold Gold.
These cream shadows are well pigmented (the Edgy Emerald slightly less than the other two), and dry to a lovely satiny finish. Tough as Taupe is an ultra-wearable neutral, great for creating a "no makeup" look. Edgy Emerald is a lovely green, but not exactly emerald in my opinion.. More of a deep, shimmery seafoam. Bold Gold is just as it is advertised.. A bold gold! Really creamy and well pigmented, I think this shade would look GORGEOUS on someone with a deep skin tone.
As far as the "24 Hour" claim, that may be pushing it. They do, however, last throughout much of the day without fading. Like most eyeshadows, they benefit from the use of a primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion or NYX High Definition Eye Shadow Base. This really helps minimize creasing and fading.
Overall, these are a pretty good buy. Creamy, dense pigmentation at a fraction of the cost of some similar, higher end products. To maximize on value, it is worth waiting for one of the ubiquitous drug store sales (BOGO 50%, etc.) that are always happening. I would like to see some more color variety in the line, right now there are 10 colors ranging from shimmery white (Too Cool) to vibrant violet (Painted Purple). However, I would love to see an ultra pigmented matte black (always useful!) plus maybe some fun colors like a hot pink.
Available at drugstores nationwide as well as online retailers like Ulta.com, for about 7 dollars each.
Have you tried the Maybelline color tattoos? What do you think?
Thank you so much for reading!
All the Best,
All the Best,
Jessica
Disclosure: I purchased these shadows myself for review :o)
