Stamped Gift Tags

Welcome back to the 12 Crafty Days of Christmas!

When it comes to wrapping presents, I love to go the extra mile to make the gift look special. You don't have to go crazy with yards of ribbon, just adding simple, personal touches can really wow someone!

This year, I decided to wrap most of my gifts very simply in brown kraft paper, which can be found at craft stores and is generally less expensive than designed wrapping paper. To dress the plain packages up, I created a variety of gift tags using a few stamps and ink colors.

Stamps can be on the expensive side individually, but I found a holiday pack on sale at Joann's for only $5 that included six stamps, two ink pads, and 20 tags!

I started playing around with the stamps, and came up with a whole pile of gift tags in a matter of minutes!

On some of the tags I added glitter glue to parts of the stamped design.

And I used lots of layering to make the tags interesting.

Adding these tags with twine to my kraft paper packages gives a great homemade feel.

This project only took minutes, but will bring on many smiles this holiday season!

November 2012 GLOSSYbox Review - Amazing Yet Again!

Oh Glossybox. You never let me down. Once again, this month's box is amazing. It is chock-full of luxury items, worth so much more than the monthly subscription price.

Full Size Illamasqua Eye and Lip Pencil
Deluxe Sample of Skin & Co. Truffle Serum

Guest Post by We Lived Happily Ever After: Oh Deer Baby Reindeer Hat

Hi Everyone! I'm Hannah from We Lived Happily Ever After.

I love all things diy and spend my time making my home a (hopefully) beautiful place for my family and sewing for my little girl.

Today I wanted to share with you my "Oh Deer" Little Baby Reindeer Pattern.

Go here to download the free pattern pieces (includes sizes NB-9 Months and 10-18 Months)

1. Cut out all pieces as directed.

You should have the following:

  2 Hat Body Pieces.

4 ear pieces
(in a color matching the hat)

4 Horns (white or light brown)

Place ear pieces with the fronts facing each other.

Hand stitch with 1/8" seam allowance. Turn inside out.

Lay the top hat piece off the bottom (with the front facing you) in front of you.

Pin your ears on upside down on the top of the front piece.

Sew your antlers together with a 1/8 seam allowance. Turn inside out and stuff.

As you did with the ears, pin the antlers unside down on the front of the hat.

Fold up where each the Hat Pattern Piece says "fold up." Do with both hat pieces.

Flip the hat piece without the ears and antlers, to be on top. You want both front sides facing each other.

Make sure the folds coordinates on both sides. Adjust if needed.

Sew together with a 1/8 seam allowance.

For added "upright support" I stitched the antlers on to the hat with a 1/8" seam allowance.

Otherwise they could be too floppy! :)

Now let your "DEER" little one model it!

Doesn't that make you just want to say "Merry Christmas!"

Hope you give it a try! It really is adorable.

a bridge

After the storm
ph: Emma Hartvig

It’s odd how every year seems to go faster as you get older. Here I am, almost a year later feeling blind sighted by the entire 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8765 hours, 525,600 minutes, and 31,556 seconds that made up this year. Amazing how you become a blip in someones life after they meant the world to you.

Sometimes I consider myself a bridge. I’ll meet a new guy and sometimes the very first time we’ll speak I’ll hear the sentence “you’re different than any other girl I’ve talked to before.” Something along those lines always seems to arise often in the course of the friendship, relationship, or simply conversation. It’s something I should be thankful for, a compliment, as some would say. But I’m tired of hearing it.

It’s not that I want someone to tell me that I’m exactly the same as the last girl they were with, or all my tendencies and quirks are that of similar people’s personalities. It’s that my relationships end for the same reason, not on bad terms, but simply general relationship problems. The reason for calling myself a bridge is because after they tell me for their first time that “I’m different than any other girl they’ve ever dated”, very soon after they find another girl, so similar to me in so many ways, and then stay with her for what feels like forever. I’m tired of that, when does someone lead me to a guy who stays with me?

After seeing this happen to me for the third time I sat and thought for hours, I thought about love and hate, and how they are indeed the strongest emotions, but they really are more similar than they are different.

I keep teetering between hate and love for the situation. They can be mistaken so often, but I never thought about it in that way before. I hate love, sometimes I wish I never fell in love, because I feel it’s an emotion that gives the human race something to strive for. The ultimate euphoria. It feels good only for a little, but takes work to keep up. So what’s the point? We work hard to get this feeling that everyone is dying to have and some people don’t even achieve. Even if you do it bites you in the ass on the way out. A final “goodbye” or what have you. Hate, on the other hand doesn’t do that. No one wants it and it doesn’t hurt you as much as love does. Hate burns people’s faces, love burns away dignity, pride, respect, trust. Hate doesn’t forgive, but it can forget. Love doesn’t forget, so it’s always there hurting you, tearing you apart, but love forgives.

I just needed to get this out there, I was then thinking about breaking up. How you’re never really fully over someone. When one person drops out of a relationship for whatever reason, the other is left out to dry. You’re out of sunlight, the wind isn’t blowing, and you’re on the ground. It’ll take forever to dry. So you don’t let go until someone else picks you up, pins you on the clothesline to feel the breeze and the sunlight.

I’m young, and also awful at getting over people. But I’m tired of dwelling. He’s my friend, a very good one at that. We loved each other. He loves his best friend now, but he still loved me. He loves me as a friend, and cares about me. Yes he was my first love, but it doesn’t mean he’ll be my last. I’m young, I’m flirty, I’m spontaneous, I’m goofy, I’m passionate, I’m determined, I’m strong, I surround myself with amazing friends, I have opinions, beliefs, ideas, thoughts, dreams, hates, loves, but for the past 3 years I’ve lost parts of myself every time I’m a bridge. This time I’m tired. No matter how many times I cry, how many times I scream and yell, how many times I don’t talk to people, it will still be there. It happened. I knew it was coming. So I guess it’s my turn to live.

Artsy Wednesday: Movember Mustaches!

This week's Artsy Wednesday theme is Movember Mustaches. "Movember" is an initiative to raise awareness about men's health every November (you can find out more at movember.com/). I can't grow a mustache (ok fine maybe a little one) but I can draw mustaches! I drew these with a black Kiss nail art pen, over a base coat of Deborah Lippmann Human Nature.
What do you think of this manicure? I love it! Are any of the men in your life growing mustaches for Movember?
Be sure to check out the mustache manis from the other ladies participating in Artsy Wednesday!

Jingle Bells on a Garden Hook

Are you enjoying the 12 Crafty Days of Christmas? I'm having so much fun sharing my Christmas projects with you!

For day number six, I'm going to take a break from the indoor decorations and show you a quick and easy way to decorate for Christmas outside!

Each Spring I love planting flowers all around my house, but once Fall arrives and all the beautiful blooms are gone, I have to clean out the dead flowers and store all my flower pots and garden hooks in the garage for the winter. It's such a pain, and my house looks so bare all winter!

So this year I decided to keep my garden hook out a little longer and use it to decorate for Christmas!

I grabbed a package of large bells and a pinecone pick from Hobby Lobby and strung the bells together with twine. I tied one end of the twine around the garden hook and wrapped the pick around to hide the twine knot.

Now every time the wind blows, it sounds like Santa's on his way!

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to come back tomorrow for more 12 Crafty Days of Christmas!
